Summer Outfits - Key Pieces
From the Airport to the Beach
I have just got back from researching Summer Outfits in the shops ahead of a personal shopping trip coming up on Friday. My client is looking for key pieces that will work for day-to-day and take her to festivals and on holiday to hotter climates. I have put together a capsule wardrobe for her that is going to see her through the next few weeks of summer that will work for almost everyone. Personal Style is of course about showing your individual personality so while these items are easy pieces that work for lots of occasions, use them as a template then find the right item for you in the right colours.
The Sunday Dress
So called because this is the easy dress you throw-on for picnics or Sunday pub lunches with friends. Wear with flat sandals or even light suede ankle boots for an edgier look. French Connection have a great selection of this kind of dress.
This year it is all about the Kimono! These look great just with jeans and a t-shirt. It is such an easy way to glam-up your look and they look brilliant with cut-off denim shorts or over your swimsuit on the beach too.
Another item out there is the ripped jean like these skinny ones from Topshop. I really like distressed jeans in white too - Whistles have a version for £90 and Topshop have all sorts of cuts to choose from for around £40.
Cats Eye Sunglasses
This is the sunglasses style of the moment. It will suit oval face shapes and round but more angular shaped faces look better in squarer designs - try an aviator.
The Jumpsuit (and/or playsuit)
If you are going across the water on holiday this year and want to look as glamorous (if not more) than the very stylish European ladies then get a jumpsuit immediately! Reiss do the best tailored and smart versions on the Highstreet. This one is in a gorgeous palm print and slightly more casual which is perfect for dressing up or down on holiday. Reiss also have a white jumpsuit with a feather pattern that would look stunning with a tan. You'd be surprised too how curvier figures look great in these too - especially the tailored versions.
Again Reiss do a lovely tailored smart playsuit that would work for people over 30! This comes in cream or black and if you've got good legs this could be an even better choice than the jumpsuit.
We all need a pair of these. A pair of shoes you can put on that just go with everything. & Other Stories have an excellent selection and lots are currently on sale.
These are really handy for evenings and travelling. I suggest getting one denim jacket to go over maxi dresses and your Sunday Dress and a leather jacket in a pastel colour as more of an investment. The pale pink leather one here is by Maje the French label and is around £400. If you're not looking to invest that much in what might be a trend colour then Topshop do some lovely faux leather jackets in pale pink or blue.
And to finish...dangly earrings are great with summer outfits and your hair pulled up. Statement necklaces always add glamour and sparkle to simple outfits - wear one or the other unless they match or you'll look a bit jumbled.
So there you have my round-up of what to pack for holidays and what items will get you through the summer season. Next time I will be writing all about Autumn so enjoy this sunshine while it shines :).
If you don't have the time (or the inclination) to shop yourself then book a Personal Shopping Trip and I'll do all the hard work while you look fabulous!
