Get Noticed At Work - Top Tips

Top it all off

A very old, tried and tested and dated work look is the classic corporate suit teamed with a Thomas Pink or TM Lewin style cotton button-up shirt. Smart enough but it's pretty uninspiring and lacks pep (see below). When doing Wardrobe Edit's for my City clients, many times I discover these kinds of shirts in their wardrobe, because for years they've been too busy to think about changing this tired work 'look' but also because it's really difficult to look at your own style objectively.  This is why we get into style ruts and end up dressing the same for years and years without really noticing. Meanwhile the world moves on and style evolves too so to appear current it's good to keep your work look current too.

Updating your look at work will make you look and feel more confident, put a spring in your step and get you noticed for the right reasons. By having a very polished and individual but appropriate work look you have the professional edge with bosses, colleagues and clients alike.

Raise Your Game

So there really is no need to blend-in and stick to the standard button-up cotton shirt with your tailored suit. There are so many more options these days for every budget, I particularly like silk and satin and a high neck or a pussy bow to add interest to the corporate suit. Alesha Florrick in The Good Wife is a good example, wearing great tailoring topped off with interesting shirts and blouses to keep her look current rather than the from the 80's and 90's.

In a Corporate or suited work environment, stick to a well tailored suit like the Reiss suit below and then use your tops to add style and personality.

Finally, I recommend a tailored top as a refreshing alternative to a shirt or blouse. The Fold do workwear with a difference for women who work in corporate environments. This top is gorgeous and very flattering for all body shapes. Wear it with the matching trousers or mix-it up with black, beige or stone coloured tailored trousers and suede nude shoes to finish:

Feeling uninspired and blending-in every day at work is dull. Being brilliant at your job and standing out as one of the best dressed in the work place is exciting and motivating so why not chuck out the cotton shirts and be more daring this year.
