So what is in the shops for you to wear from your desk to the disco and beyond this Christmas 2017  now that the glitzyist season of the year is here! - the shops are a sparklin' and there are Christmas pop-ups popping up all over the place! Buying things you wouldn't usually wear day-to-day at this time of year that DON'T necessarily outlive trends or that are practical comes with it's own set of joy. Often lots of us will stand in the shop calculating the cost per wear, justifying the purchase and wondering "will this go with five other things in my wardrobe?" before actually making the purchase - driven by guilt (and budget) - quite a stressful process!

But move over sensible shopping - 'cos Christmas is a time for overindulgence all round and the sparkling climax of another year.  Finding things you can wear during the day and that also work for parties is the current goal and never mind if they don't work in January.

My pick of the top wardrobe desk to disco items:

  1. Pleather or leather trousers - totally great option and not 'mutton dressed as lamb' as a lot of people think. They're smarter than lycra leggings and smarter than jeans too so why not? It upgrades your look.  If you've got the legs then these are a brilliant brilliant choice instead of jeans. If you want to make them more grown-up then wear them with a silk shirt and smart blazer (see below). Can also be worn with trainers and a big chunky oversized knit, also with a tunic dress or maxi dress over the top - lots of options.

2) Glam blazer. These can easily be worn all day with jeans or trousers then add some heels for the evening.

3) Glam dresses. I don't normally wear dresses myself because they feel impractical and too much - I'm far more comfy in jeans or trousers which is why they are a great choice for Christmas! Mixing-it up a bit - I particularly love this galaxy print sheer chiffon dress to layer over leather or pleather leggings with heels. Wear a long sleeve top or roll neck underneath to warm your arms.

Lace is another great choice and this pink lace dress from Mango with a metallic thread is gorgeous. Wear a smart black blazer over the top which will contrast nicely with the hot pink add knee length boots for a cool edgy look or add heels to be more feminine. Silver heels will work really well with this dress and be in harmony with the silver thread.

Shimmy in sequins! A sequin or lame top is a good piece to slip on over your smart, tailored black trousers or with jeans come the evening time. As always, &Other Stories and Topshop are great for party tops. I particularly like the midnight blue sequin top because it feels a bit more classy to me being in a dark blue and I'm pure class!!!!!

Satin trousers are more dressy than your standard black crepe or cotton. The wide legged trousers below by Vince from Matches Fashion are pricey but cut beautifully and will work as a party trouser for lots of events not just Christmas. If you prefer a skinny trouser then Other Stories have a lot of satin choices in-store at the moment.

Finally, grab a pair of stiletto sock boots like these neon pink from Other Stories and you'll have Christmas 2017 all sewn up! These are the boots of the moment and come in all sorts of colours and sparkly options across the Highstreet.
