What should you wear to Royal Ascot or the races in 2022?

As we know, there is a fairly strict dress code at Royal Ascot but each enclosure has its own dress code so make sure you check before sourcing your outfit. The Royal enclosure has the strictest where no fascinators, spaghetti straps or halterneck dresses are allowed plus dresses need to be a modest length. You also can’t wear see through tulle on the top half. Read more about the dress codes here.

Each year Royal Ascot also has a theme and this year (2022) it is sustainability. They are encouraging guests to come in a dress already owned, hire or buy vintage.

If you can shop your own wardrobe and maybe jazz an old dress up with new accessories then that will make sure no-one else has the same dress. Vintage is great but it can take a long time to hunt down the perfect dress. What lots of people will be doing this year is renting. Renting is all the rage and the industry is growing fast.

I personally like By Rotation, Hurr Collective and My Wardrobe HQ. Selfridges and Harrods are both in on the act and have space for dress rental companies in-store and online nestled next to their new dresses for sale.

Save tons of time with my Royal Ascot edit

Finding the perfect dress that fits the dress code with shoes, bag and hat can take so much time! This is another reason the rental companies are great because they have a fairly small edit in one place and you might come across something that you wouldn’t usually think of.

All the outfits here in my edit can be bought or you can rent them from one of the companies I’ve already mentioned. All except the green dress blow which is vintage anyway so works too!
