It's important to look pulled together at work and looking good gives you bags of confidence - so what are the key items to get this season for a polished work look - the building blocks that are wardrobe essentials?Whilst traditionally, corporate dressing is classic and understated the rules have changed over the past few years. It's deemed as a good thing to show individuality these days and colour is now more de-rigeur than the usual black, grey or navy. Also worth considering is that silhouettes change with fashion and getting the cut of your clothing right will keep your look current. I've chosen the most useful items you need in your work wardrobe this season that you will go to again and again, key pieces that will make getting dressed for work easy.

Key professional items to buy this season:

Silk blouse

A plain cream or white silk blouse. Classy, simple and stylish and versatile too! I like LK Bennet and All Saints for a younger version.

Either slim cut or 'on-trend' wide legged like these really flattering Winser London crepe trousers. Herringbone check is on-trend this season.

Tailored work dress

We all need a bit of tailoring in our wardrobe to suit certain occasions. If you are client facing then it's professionally polite to dress the part and it shows you mean business too.

A tailored work dress is a no-brainer as all it requires is heels, coat and bag and you're done - this will work hard in any work wardrobe. I like this blush pink one from The Fold - pink is unexpected in the corporate workplace and maybe a bit bold but looks totally professional and helps you to stand out - in a good way.

Colour proof shoes

What I mean by this is shoes that match all your outfits and are a core wardrobe item. Grey will do this nicely.
